PSRN Overview

This one-day education program equips workers to become PSRNs by learning to provide confidential, peer-based support and strengthen recovery-inclusive workplaces. Led by Dr. Paul Farnan, workers will receive training in essential areas such as active listening, ethical conduct, recovery-informed communication, and crisis recognition. After training, PSRNs will be able to provide confidential guidance, non-judgmental support, and help connect co-workers with appropriate professional resources when needed.

By leveraging the power of peer support, the PSRN Program helps prevent personal challenges from escalating into safety risks, incidents, or lost time while strengthening workplace culture, retention, and overall well-being. Participants receive a certificate of completion and become part of a growing network of trained Peer Support Recovery Navigators across British Columbia. The program also fosters ongoing connection through a BCCSA-led Community of Practice, providing opportunities for shared learning, mentorship, and continued support with fellow PSRNs across the construction sector.

Program Requirements:

Participation is an essential part of the PSRN Program. Participants are expected to contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and recovery-informed learning environment by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and consideration for others. Meaningful engagement, active listening, and the use of appropriate language and behaviour help create a space where participants can learn from one another’s lived and learned experiences.

As a PSRN, your role is grounded in trust, respect, and peer support. During training, you are encouraged to share insights, support fellow participants, and contribute to group learning while respecting confidentiality and personal boundaries. By working collaboratively, participants help strengthen the skills, confidence, and connections that are central to building a safer, recovery-inclusive workplace culture.
