Holders of the new Provisional Certificate must work under indirect supervision until competent (fully certified). To work with indirect supervision as an uncertified operator, you must hold a valid Provisional Certificate issued by the BCCSA’s Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO™) program. A Provisional Certificate is valid for twelve (12) weeks from date of issue and is only issued once.
Becoming a Provisional Operator
Once you have successfully completed your written (theory) exam, and have purchased a practical exam, you will receive a Provisional Certificate. If you hold a Provisional Certificate, you must still work under supervision, pursuant to section 20.26.6(2)(b) of the Regulation, but the supervision may be indirect or direct.
What does “indirect supervision” mean?
Indirect supervision is defined as supervision by a qualified Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO™) whereby the supervisor is available by phone, radio, or other immediate means of contact for the duration of the pumping operations.
Who can supervise a Provisional Operator?
Only a qualified Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO™) can supervise an uncertified operator. A qualified CCPO™ is one who holds a valid CCPO™ certification for the class or type of concrete pump or placing boom being operated.
Who requires direct supervision?
If an operator does not hold either a valid Provisional Certificate or a valid CCPO™ certification, they must work under the direct supervision of a qualified CCPO™. Direct supervision is defined as line of sight, in-person supervision by a qualified Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO™) whereby the supervisor is available in-person for the duration of the pumping operations.
How can I get full certification?
To become a fully certified concrete pump operator, you must successfully pass both the written (theory) exam and the practical exam. An operator who does not complete a practical exam within twelve (12) months of passing the written exam must start the certification process over from the beginning.
