An opportunity for experienced asbestos abatement professionals to participate in and support construction workers to earn their Asbestos Abatement Certification, a new mandatory requirement in BC.

Background
The BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) is seeking individuals experienced in asbestos abatement to evaluate workers in a safety skills practical assessment. The assessment will be administered in a simulated environment (worksite where material containing asbestos must be removed.)

The BC Government’s Bill 5 (Amendments to Workers Compensation Act) mandates that starting January 1, 2024, all asbestos abatement workers must successfully complete a safety certification program prior to working on an active abatement job site. Four levels of certification are available:

  • Level 1 – For anyone transporting and disposing of asbestos-containing waste (online training & written Certification exam required)
  • Level 2 – For anyone conducting asbestos abatement work (online training, practical skills assessment & written Certification exam required)
  • Level 3 – Worksite Management – for supervisors a Worksite Management – for supervisors and others responsible for health and safety at asbestos abatement worksites (written Certification exam required)
  • Level 4 – Surveyor – for asbestos surveyors or samplers (written Certification exam required)
